             *Chapter ONE*

"Run away! Run as far as you can!" She warned with a stern expression on her face. Her heart began to race, her blue eyes turned to fear. Her body began to shake uncontrollabley as she listened to what the old woman had warned so scornfully. She finally came to safe haven, the baby in her arms began to awake. She looked down at the innocent face of a child. She seemed perfect, all wrapped up in a soft, pink recieving blanket. The child yawned and cooed, she opened her wide blue eyes and closed them again. Perhaps knowning of the danger she was in. Usually this baby had seemed so colicky but now when times were dyer she was a perfect little angel. The young woman sighed. She was almost out of danger...almost. "What am I going to do?" She asked the night sky, waiting for a reply from the heavens but nothing came forth. No answer to her needy prayer this time, no answer at all.

***5 years later***

The snow fell down the sometimes cold and callous streets of New York. No one in particular seemed to notice the birght stars in the sky that shown over the dark night. They brought a certain brightness to some but not all. The smell of sinful crimes filled the night air. It was thick and soggy. Faith Standish watched from her apartment window, she watched the innocent snow flakes began to fall. Her tired eyes began to brighten and turn blue once again. She smiled a little smirk but let it fade as it had over the years. "Mommy!" A little girls voice rang in Faith's ears. She turned her attention to a petite blonde girl with large, princess like eyes. "Honey, what is it?" She answered as her young daughter stood in the doorway of Faith's room with arms placed ever so roughly across her chest. "You forgot to read me a story!" The little girl said in an impolite fashion. Her attention was taken in by the snowflakes outside, the very snowflakes her mother was admiring. "Wow! It's snowing!" Charity's blue eyes were getting even bigger as she raced towards her mother and placed her face up against the glass, scrunching in her nose a bit. The little girl knew what snow meant, it meant Christmas was coming more near than last months falling of leaves. Mother and daughter both admired the snow that fell before there eyes.

*There has been five more child murders in the New York area. Police have come up with no leads or possible suspects.*

Faith was startled by the news and the fact that her daughter was watching it. She turned off the t.v. only to get a sour reaction from Charity. "Mommy, I was watching that!" She wined. "Sweetie, thats too violent for you." Faith said in her best disciplinary voice. Ignoring her mother, Charity stuck her thumb in her mouth, turned the t.v. back on and began to flip through the channels, searching for nothing in particular. She stopped at a talk show and began watching with utter intent. Faith was ironing and as she lifted up her eyes towards the television a dizzy feeling began to rush over her. She stared face to face in a man she hadn't seen in five years. A man she hoped to never see again, yet there he was staring at her. She fixated her eyes to his. Her heart began to pound, welcoming a flood of memories she wished to forget.

****The time was painful yet peaceful all at once. Why had she loved this man. When he touched her, she trembled. When he kissed her, she moaned. She found herself addicted to his touches and his kisses. "I love so much." He had said it to her a thousand times. Faith had believed it then more than anything. "I love you too." Had been her honest reply. She had loved him more than anyone she had ever loved in her life. His handsome dark features had filled her eyes with pleasure. His broad, seductive shoulders and his strong arms were not the only reason Faith had fallen for this man. She had loved him for more than that. She had loved him for loving her. Expecting that she was different from others in away most wouldn't understand. he had not thought her crazy or even eccentric. So expecting but in the end the exceptance turned deadly. She had seen too many apalling things he had done, unforgivable things.****

Faith's trance and visit to the past had left her when she felt a hard tugging on her pajama pants. "Mommy." Chairty stared up at her mom with an anxious expression on her face. "Lets go." She said with an impatient sigh.

Charity sat coloring alone on the floor. She was drawing anything that came to mind. She hadn't an idea as to what was being drawn. Just a dream she might have had. She wasn't sure when this image had come into her head. She ignored the other children at St. Mary's Catholic school and stuck to herself as always. "Charity," Sister Maria said in a kind voice,"It's time to work on your ABC's." The nun said with dissaproval of what Charity was drawing. She was even more startled by the other pictures that Charity had drawn. They were pictures of Satanic markings. "Charity, why are you drawing such things?" Sister Maria asked. Charity payed little attention as usual. She was now focusing her attention to the large framed window that led to outside. She had expected it to snow again but it hadn't. Outside still reaked of the fall leaves and atmosphere. Charity shrieked at the sight of a bird running in the large window. She ran past the hispanic nun and outside the church doors. Sister Maria followed, along with the other children.

Charity was sitting cross-legged on the concrete with the lifeless bird in her small hands. Rocking herself back and forth, praying and rocking, rocking and praying. Willing the poor birds life to come back, praying and rocking. Charity had her eyes closed tight. Somehow she knew what was to be done in this situation. The children gathered around her. Watching Charity in awe and in envy. Charity then opened up her arms and sat the bird free, she watched as the birds wings flapped, scooping up the sky. The children began to jump around enthusiastically. Charity had fixed the bird! They had all agreed on that. They began saying it over and over and laughing with glee. Charity stood there with a somber yet pleasureful expression upon her face. A smile was not shown but the look of satisfaction. "Maybe it just get knocked out." Sister Maria insisted to the children but they refused to believe it. Charity had willed the life back into that little bird, there was no doubt about it. Faith was across the playground she had seen everything. She was unhappy about this. She walked briskly towards her daughter and the crowd of children. Apparently she had not been the only one who had seen this miracle. In the shadows a man stood, a man who's only wish was to bring harm to Faith and her young daughter. "I think we've found the one." He told the person on the other line through his car phone.
